According to the US Census Bureau the Advance Monthly Retails Survey's purpose is to provide an early indication of sales by the retail and food services companies. The responses to this survey are voluntary. The survey is given to retail and food services companies with one or more establishments that sell merchandise and associated services to final consumers.

This data shows the amount of retail floorspace built within town centres and within edge of town centres in England. These statistics are based on floorspace data provided by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) applied to Areas of Town Centre Activity (ATCAs) boundaries as produced and published by Communities and Local Government.
