Welly Wanging

Here is a website covering the details of the World Wellington Boot throwing contest. The next contest is to be held in September in Wellington, Somerset (UK) - just north of Wellington Without on the M25 (map). If you're a wellie fan - don't miss this event. While you're in the area stop off and see the Wellington Monument. Read about it here.

According to the welly wanging association rules the standard welly is a Dunlop green, size 9, non steel toe-cap. Here's a webpage on Dobbies discussing these rules.

Welly Wanging Game

From the Aardman Animation studio's comes this fantastic Welly Wanging game. It's fun - you're a pig and have a green welly - two clicks - the first to choose the angle and the second to fire the welly. Works great! Welly flies through the sky, bounces on clouds, spring mattresses. Try beat the distance record of 1879m.

What is Welly Wanging?

Welly throwing is the peculiar and quaint - very British sport of Wellie Wanging is one in which individuals throw Wellington Boots as far as possible within boundary lines. Think of shot put - but with a Wellington Boot.

Rules

The rules are generally applied fairly loosely due to the nature of the sport, however there is a Wellington Boot Throwing Association (see links below) that requires competitors to follow strict rules.

Ideas

Maybe you're thinking of ideas for your fund-raising or charity event - this will be a kicker!

Give it some welly!

"Give it some welly!", screamed the crowds. This ancient British saying passed on from welly-wanger to welly-wanger through the generations. Used to inspire and encourage and perfect for use at welly throwing tournaments.

The Shoe Tree - Shoe Tossing

There appear to be a few trees around the world with shoes hanging in them. This appears to be a tradition amongst some students, plumbers, and military folk.
