London Design Festival

The London Design Festival is held every year to promote London as the design capital of the world.

The London Design Festival was established in 2003 as an annual event to celebrate and promote London and the UK's design creativity. It is an umbrella brand that brings together a diverse and unique group of partner organizations from across a range of sectors to stage London's biggest annual design event. Each year it enables new collaborations which bring exciting new projects covering every aspect of the creative industry and beyond.

The event hosts designers from all over the UK and displays the unique, the fashionable, the quaint, the unusual and the ingenious - this is what makes up the British design industry.

The London Design Festival also hosts international designers from countries all over the world.

When is the London Design Festival?

The London Design Festival is held all over London during September - see  to register.

The Boot Kidz at Gap Kids

"The Boot Kidz" featured in the London Design Festival in 2006 in partnership with GapKids and their Regent Street window display exhibition.

Regent Street is one of London's finest shopping streets. Regent Street has many of the most up-market clothes shops, toy stores, and boutiques in the world.

Regent Street has 200 years of shopping tradition. Located in the center of London within 10 minutes walk of Oxford Street, Hamley's Toy Shop, Soho, and Mayfair; Regent Street's thousands of daily shoppers seek its designer clothes and upmarket jewelry.

Gap Inc. was founded by Don Doris Fisher. They opened their first shop in San Francisco, California in 1969 and went public on the stock exchange in 1976. The Gap opened its first international store in London 1987. See their UK website here. GapKids started in 1986 and BabyGap was formed in 1990.

Each Boot Kidz is the outline of a cartoon character standing in concrete Wellington Boots. The boots are dyed and the frame is electro-painted to produce a high-quality interior design furniture product.

The Boot Kidz at Gap Kids

A card hand-out used during the London Design Festival for Bootkidz at Gap Kids in Regent Street.  1000 cards were printed and displayed using the card at the exhibition during of the event.

The card read:

"To support the London Design Festival's continuing commitment to design innovation, Gap Kids is proud to collaborate with local designers Jenny Wilkinson and Karen Henry. Gap Kids' design team worked closely with Jenny and Karen to develop special window installations that feature GapKids product alongside their innovative designs.

Windows feature Karen Henry's 'Boot Kidz', two-dimensional cartoon-like clothes stands, and Jenny Wilkinsons's playful, 50s inspired wallpaper-by-numbers.

This is the card that was used as the card for the exhibition. The card was fun and a few kids and adults drew the card by numbers.

Hope you enjoyed reading about this.
