Where cement is used in the design of everyday products

Cement is used to make the boots for each Boot Kid. Cement is a popular design material; Used in the manufacture of kitchen-counter-tops and in the building of state of the art sky-scrapers.

Boot Kidz concrete wellies

Each "Boot Kid" boot is moulded using real Wellington boots and cast using concrete mixed with coloured dye. No paint is used. Sealant is used to produce the glossy finish and protect the outer surface of the boots.

Unique features of concrete

Concrete is extremely long-lasting with high compression strength. Concrete has a unique clean stoney look combined with slightly rough texture making it a perfect material choice for designers.

What is the difference between concrete and cement?

Concrete contains cement, sand and gravel, whereas cement is made from:

  • Calcium
  • Silicon
  • Iron
  • Aluminium

This mixture is baked to produce a powdery material.

The most popular brand of cement is "Portland Cement" - patented by Joseph Aspdin.

Cement is a reactive chemical and can cause skin, lungs, and eye damage. Protective clothing should be worn at all times to prevent long term and repeat exposure.
