"Kawaii" (not to be confused with Kauai the Hawaiian island) is an adjective in Japanese meaning " pretty; cute; lovely; charming; dear; darling; pet" It's stem is two kanji meaning "can love". It is commonly used by anime and manga fans. It can be used in several sentence patterns, including a question such as "Kawaii ne?" meaning "Cute, isn't it?" Merriam's definition for cute is "attractive or pretty especially in a childish, youthful, or delicate way". Delightfully pretty or dainty. The word cute is slang from 1731, and is a shortening of the word acute. It is now a common everyday word.



In Japanese, a "moekko" is a character who could be considered youthful and cute.
