UV is both beneficial and dangerous. Ultraviolet (UV) light is found in sunlight and causes sunburn with over-exposure. The sun produces UVA, UVB, and UVC. UVB causes the production of vitamin D in the skin. Exposure to UVB causes the skin to produce melanin - or a tan.
